Fall Semester Launch FAQs

CAYA Twitter

We are so excited to be kicking off the Fall Semester of The Gathering on August 25th in Harris Theatre! We are honored that so many of the people who have prayed for The Gathering and have supported us will be joining us for this historic night! Because this is such a special night, we have had a lot of questions come in about the details and specifics of the launch. So here is all you need to know about what to expect when you come to The Gathering’s Fall Semester launch!

Q: Where is Harris Theatre?

A: Harris Theatre is one of the region’s most beautiful performing arts venues and is located in the middle of the Fairfax Campus of George Mason University. It is directly across from the Johnson Center, the main student center on campus. As a point of reference, if you are looking at the statue of George and the Johnson Center is on your right, Harris Theatre is the building on your left.

Q: Who is can go? Is August 25th only for GMU students or college students?

A: While The Gathering is a ministry by college students for students, The Gathering’s Fall Semester Launch Night is for everyone! We want to honor the churches, ministries, leaders and generations that have prayed for our students. So everyone is invited and you can come as you are.

Q: Where do I park?

A: There are a parking options. The first is on campus at GMU in the Mason Pond Visitor’s Parking Deck, which is about 100 feet from Harris Theatre. The cost is $3 per hour, and there is very clear signage at GMU for Visitor Parking. But The Gathering also has a free parking thanks to The Gathering Shuttle! The Shuttle runs from 7:30-8:00 from the Fairfax Community Church parking lot, which is less than one mile from campus, and our shuttle will drop you back off at your car when the night is over. And the best part is, IT IS TOTALLY FREE! The address for Fairfax Community Church is 11451 Braddock Rd, Fairfax, VA 22030, and once you are there just follow the signs to the Shuttle. For more information, follow the link here!

Q: I am brining a large group. Is there anything I should know?

If you are bringing a large group to the launch, it might be wise to drop your group of people off at the shuttle location on campus at GMU and have the driver park the car and ride the shuttle over to take some of the pressure off of the shuttle. The shuttle drop off location on campus is on Mason Pond Drive between the Mason Pond Parking Deck and the Performing Arts building. Your group can still sit together and save seats. This will help us ensure that everyone gets there on time to experience all of the night!

21 Days of Prayer

We are just 3 short weeks away from the start of the Fall Semester. And at The Gathering, we are believing that God is going to do some huge things in the lives of students in the region here on the campus of George Mason University.

So over the next three weeks, we are inviting the people of God all over the region to join us, the students and leaders of The Gathering, on a journey of prayer. We want you to embark with us as we pray and seek God on behalf of the students of GMU. We want Jesus to move in a mighty and miraculous way on this campus. We want his glory to fall and his name to be lifted high over the students and campuses of this region.

And we believe that if hundreds and even thousands followers of Jesus from many churches and ministries all over the region will come together as one to pray for an outpouring of the spirit of God over the students of this region, we will see many students saved, delivered and moving into a life of purpose and fulfillment in Jesus.

If you want to join along with us you can follow us on Instagram and on Twitter @thegatheringgmu, where we will be posting daily updates of what we are praying for and the scriptures that we are reading as we seek God on behalf of the campus. And if you want to interact with us, agree with us or let us know what you are praying for so that we can join in, you can use the hashtag #PrayForGMU.

This Summer at The Gathering

The spring semester has ended, but The Gathering will be going strong through the summer. Check out everything that’s going down as the weather heats up.

-On Wednesday, June 18th, The Gathering is hosting our first United Night! Over the summer, The Gathering will be hosting services at local churches all over the region that have supported the cause of The Gathering, and we’re calling them United Nights. United Nights are the perfect opportunity to experience everything that The Gathering is, only without going to the JC Bistro. The first one is going to be at 8 pm at The Life Church in Manassas, VA. These are going to be powerful nights that you do not want to miss, so set your calendars now!

-Throughout the summer, our small groups will continue to meet all over the region! Small groups are a great way to get connected to a growing community of people who are learning to follow Jesus. We meet on different nights and at different locations all over the Northern Virginia area, so if you want to get connected to a small group, email info@thegatheringgmu.com today.

-On the last Friday of every month, The Gathering will continue to host Final Fridays. Final Fridays are a chance to just hang out with us as we do something fun! During the summer, we’ll also do fun events more frequently than once a month, so follow us on social media to get all the details.

- On July 31-August 2, the Gathering will be going to the Motion Conference in Birmingham, AL. Motion is conference out on by an awesome church called Church of the Highlands and features great speakers like Louie Giglio, Carl Lentz and Chad Veach and worship from Chris Tomlin, Hillsong Young and Free and Rend Collective. The cost will be about $225 per person, and we will be doing some fundraising to help differ the cost. To reserve your spot today, email info@thegatheringgmu.com.

End It A21 Fundraising Total: Mission Accomplished!!!

End It A21 Fundraising Total: Mission Accomplished!!!

Right now, there are 27 million people living in slavery all over the world. And because we serve a just and righteous savior named Jesus, we know that this isn’t right. This semester, The Gathering committed to raise both our voice and our money to address the problem of slavery. We pledged to raise awareness about the issue and $3000 this semester for an awesome organization called the A21 Campaign. A21 runs shelters in Europe to take girls who have been rescued out of the sex slave industry and send them through the process of recovery, counseling and job training so that they can live the lives of purpose and fulfillment that God always had in store for them.

The reason we chose the $3000 dollar goal is because that is the price it takes for one girl to go through the recovery process. Well today, we are very pleased to announce that the students of George Mason University met that goal! We raised $3000 to fight slavery in one semester!!! We are so proud of the stand that the students of GMU have taken this semester for freedom, and we know that this is only the beginning of what God is going to use us to do. We will be the generation that sees slavery stomped out in our lifetime! We are In It To End It.
